ATI
-- Alternatives to Incarceration
Since the cost of the proposed county jail in Yaphank will
impact the county budget, LWVSC is examining Alternatives to Incarceration
(ATI) to minimize the size (and cost) of the jail. The LWVNYS strongly supports the use of ATI for nonviolent offenders. There is a need for earlier, more effective intervention and, if applicable, treatment. Sanctions should be more innovative, constructive and less restrictive.
An
ATI report was
prepared by the Suffolk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC)
dated February 2008.

Incarceration.
This 1993 document
describes
the League's current position on ATI. |
